News from MG Kente, notes on Ghanaian culture and cloth, and updates from our community projects. What Makes Royal Kente 'Royal'? Kente wasn't always for everyone. Born in the Ashanti Kingdom, this cloth was reserved for royalty — woven for kings and queens, worn at the most important moments of life. Each strip is woven by hand on a loom in Kumasi, then joined into a full cloth. And every pattern means something: colors and designs carry proverbs, history, and pride. That's the cloth we sell at MG Kente — the real thing, woven the way it has been for generations. When you wear royal kente, you're not just wearing a pattern. You're wearing a language. From there it goes to Accra for sewing and finishing, and then out to the world — we ship worldwide, directly from Ghana. Because everything is made to order, we ask customers to plan 4–6 weeks ahead. Good cloth takes time — and when your package arrives, you'll feel why it was worth the wait. The Bepoase Project: Giving Back at Home: Marrying Ghana's mission has always had two halves: build the business, and lift the community. The Bepoase Project is where the second half comes to life. The project is centered on Bepoase, in the Kumasi region of Ghana. Alongside it, our Humanitarian Ghana Collection donates 3% of proceeds to our non-profit free meal and education program in West Africa. Every order helps put food on a table and a child in a classroom. Thank you for making that possible. Support the project: see the Community Support page.
